5 Things That Helped Me Early in Recovery

  1. Journaling → This helped me work through things and examine my feelings. Try to be as unfiltered as possible--just write what you are thinking. You can also record your wins and goals!

  2. Affirmations → Although recommended time and time again, they are so helpful! You can even write a few on post-it notes to stick to your mirror.

  3. Distractions → Personally, I loved listening to music and coloring. But there are a multitude of options--find what’s best for you!

  4. Listing out reasons to recover → Reasons can be as simple or elaborate as you wish. Having a list can provide you with a good reminder when you need it.

  5. Being honest → I had to learn it the hard way, but being honest is incredibly important. Small lies can easily grow--it’s best to be truthful to yourself, your team, and your loved ones. They are there to help you!
